It’s been a little over a week since the proposal and Tony and I are currently still over the moon! But I wanted to take a moment and share our engagement story with you… and the story behind the ring. I think it’s beautiful, but that’s probably just me being TOTALLY BIASED.
Our plan for that Sunday morning was to go hiking somewhere up in Irvine. A place we’d previously been to once before and loved, so we wanted to go back. The thing is… I’m kind of, sort of, not so great with directions. And just like on our first date (ironically), I got us lost. For about a good 30 minutes. Dummie. I know.
Anyway, at this point we had already decided an ice cream date sounded better than a hike, so we were on our way back! The drive was worth it though because we were driving through fields of wildflowers. Everywhere we looked, left and right, covered in wildflowers! And Tony knows how much I love flower fields, so he pulled over on the side of the road and we made our way to the flowers. You guys, I was in heaven! I started cutting flowers. I wanted enough for a small bouquet to take back home. So here I am cutting flowers and playing with the ladybugs on them, while Tony’s probably thinking I’m a complete and total loon. I don’t blame him!
Nope. Apparently he was thinking just the opposite. I went up to him with a handful of flowers, a big smile and a big hug. Thanking him for pulling over and bringing me to the flower field. I couldn’t be happier to be where we were at that exact moment. And then…
he got down on one knee, and I said yes!
But only after having asked him (like 5 times) if he was serious! Haha it was so surreal but so perfect.
Oh… and a little after Tony proposed, a park ranger guy pulled up and asked what we were doing. Saying we couldn’t really be there lol. I think it was all still so surreal, we panicked and said we were just taking pictures, rather than telling him Tony had just proposed and asking him to take a picture of us! Aghhhh!!
Now, the story behind the ring.
Is it not the most beautiful ring you’ve ever seen? Again, being TOTALLY BIASED HERE. But just wait til you hear the story of why and how this ring came to be.
He said it took him many trips to the jewelry store before finding the right one. At first he reserved the typical, round top ring everyone has. But he still wasn’t happy with it. He wanted something different. Something “more me.” He said for as long as he’s known me, I’ve always had a thing for wildflowers. Because they’re beautiful and strong, and grow where they please. Tony says I’m a lot like wildflowers. So that was his inspiration. He wanted something simple but different so he designed a ring that had all of those elements.
I cried when he told me the story. I thought the thought and detail he put into the ring was everything. It wasn’t just an engagement ring, but everything he thought of me, and us, put together into a promise of forever.
Ahh! Okay. Done gushing.
